Presentation on the administration of pre-graduation practices abroad step by step.

Mobility programmes under which you can take pregraduation practices

Note 1: In case you are going to arrange the pregraduation practice in your home country, you have to go under Freemover – Traineeship programme and submit its proper documentation.
Note 2: In case you are going to take the practice outside your home country and the Czech Republic, you can use any mobility programmes depending on the length and destination of the clinical training.

Practices that can be carried out abroad and their required length

Paediatrics – a minimum of 3 weeks
Internal Medicine – a minimum of 7 weeks
Surgery – a minimum of 5 weeks
Paliative Medicine - a minimum of 3 days
General Medicine Practice and Geriatrics:

Pre-graduation practices can be initiated no sooner than in the 11th semester of your study after completing all the courses of Years 1–5; during summer holidays it is possible to take only summer vacation practice

Psychiatry - practice – a minimum of 2 weeks – 60 hours

Required Documents

Documents have to be signed by three parties (You, Foreign Institution and Home Faculty represented by Vice-Dean Křivan)

Erasmus+ Traineeship

before departure: Learning Agreement for Trainee / Changes to LA for Studies (online in ISOIS system)
during the stay: pre-graduation practice form (with the observed tasks)
at the end of the stay: Confirmation of Traineeship

Freemover Traineeship

before departure: Training Agreement
during the stay: pre-graduation practice form (with the observed tasks)
at the end of the stay: Confirmation of Placement Period

Note: Documents have to be legible, therefore we require completing them on the computer

Instructions for the pre-graduation practices carried out

A) In one block (more practices at one workplace)

all the practices must be completed in one time period; it is not possible to take the state exams during the stay abroad
the state exams can be taken after the completion of the stay – after submitting all the required documents and the course recognition

B) As individual practices

they may be carried out separately at different hospitals
each stay has to be administrated properly and after its closure, including the course recognition, it is possible to sort out the next stay
the state exam can be done after the recognition of the pre-graduation practice

Description of the administrative process

Students take part in an informative meeting organized by the International Studies Office (ISO) during their 5th Year; they will be informed about the conditions and requirements regulating completing pregraduation practices abroad and necessary documentation
Then they email Ms Neckařová about their intention to do pregraduation practices abroad
When Students are accepted for clinical training at a foreign institution they can prepare the preliminary agreement (training/learning agreement) which permits them to do the pregraduationpractice abroad
Students organizing their traineeships under Freemover bring/email a completed TA to ISO (zpilatova@med.muni.cz) so that it can be signed by the faculty coordinator, Vice-Dean Krivan (LA for Erasmus+ traineeships is signed electronically so this step can be omitted); this should be done at least 3 weeks before the beginning of the practice abroad; please note that parts concerning the programme of the internship and other details about a foreign institution must be completed in advance
After the LA / TA is confirmed, Students are obliged to create a record of the stay abroad to the IS (STUDENT -- DURING STUDIES -- INTERNSHIPS AND STAYS -- Create a new internship or a stay and upload the LA / TA signed by the 3 parties
During the stay Students complete the pregraduation practice logbook and they have their records signed by their supervisor/mentor; this document must be also signed aand stamped at the end of the internship by a representative of the foreign institution and must have a date that is the same or later than the end of the internship
The last required document that must be signed by the foreign institution at the end of the stay is Confirmation of Study Period / Confirmation of Traineeship / Confirmation of Placement Period
After the arrival at their home institution, Students ask for signing the document from the previous paragraph at ISO (it can be done via email)
When the confirmation is signed, Students upload the form of pre-graduation practice and the confirmation into the IS record about the stay abroad
and apply for the recognition of the pre-graduation practice electronically in the IS; for more details see the guide for the recognition
Only after the closure and recognition of the stay abroad, Students can book a date of the state exam
In case of Paediatrics pre-graduation practice, Students have to contact the paediatric clinic before the state exams and prepare a CASE REPORT under the conditions of the department
As for Surgery pre-graduation practice, Students have to sit a practical exam on the date that is scheduled in the IS under registering for the state exams
the Practical exam of Surgery consists of 3 parts:
- examination of the surgical patient in the Czech language - history of the disease, physical examination, diff.dg.
- knowledge of surgical instruments (set of instruments is available in the secretary office)
- knowledge of imaging methods ( X-ray, CT, MRI of surgical diagnosis)

If it happens that the students fails the practical exam, they cannot take the state exam before they complete an additional week of the pregraduation practice at one of the surgery dept.

Notes:
* General Medical Practice, Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine must be completed before the last state exam; it is not possible to complete it as the final course before the graduation
** Students have to complete at least 12 semesters of their study, including the payment of the school fee for 12 semesters – it is not possible to complete General Medicine study earlier than in 12th semester
